E-Learning Myth #5: It’s Boring!
While a well-designed e-learning course is interesting and engaging, we understand where this myth comes from. During your search for a caregiver training solution, you’ve probably encountered stale PowerPoint slides packaged together and passed off as “e-learning.” But the good news is, not all E-learning courses are created equally!
At IntheKnow, our online learning modules are built by professional instructional designers. Our team uses cutting edge-technology to create highly interactive and immersive curriculum that any demographic of caregiver can enjoy. Specifically, three factors make our courses stand out amongst the crowd:
1. Interactive Visuals
The problem with many online training programs is the delivery. Purely reading-intensive courses can be tedious, and don’t encourage retention. In fact, studies show that learners only remember 10% of written information three days after the initial delivery. However, when the text is accompanied with a relevant image or video, learners remember about 65% of the information. Our solution? Interactive visuals.
Throughout our modules, learners will discover clickable images and symbols that populate additional info. All text is accompanied with a corresponding visual. For example, in our Nutrition for the Elderly module, caregivers are encouraged to click on the images below to learn more about musculoskeletal changes.
2. A Healthy Dose of Video Content
To break up the reading, we have video content peppered in throughout our modules as well. This is especially important in courses such as “How Wounds Heal and How You Can Help,” where visuals and physical demonstrations are key. Other videos are more light-hearted and entertaining, such as “100 Years of Dinner,” which highlights different meals that have been served in home care over the last century.
The mix of interactive reading prompts and video content will keep your caregivers immersed and help them absorb information better than traditional learning methods.
3. Gamification
As learners make their way through IntheKnow’s e-learning courses, they encounter checkpoints. These often take the form of gamified activities, such as our drag-and-drop “Shopping for Mrs. Tate” checkpoint.
At the end of the Special Nutrients section in “Nutrition for the Elderly,” learners must consider the following scenario: During Mrs. Tate’s routine physical, her doctor suggested she increase her calcium intake. As her nurse aide, we need to drag the two items with the most calcium to the shopping bag and click “submit.” Then, we’ll receive immediate feedback and, once we get the answer correct, move on with the module.
Not only are these activities engaging, but they also ensure learners are paying attention and understanding the course materials along the way.
Although some online training programs are just plain boring, IntheKnow’s e-learning courses are interactive, engaging, and fun. But don’t just take our word for it, see for yourself!
