Description
IADLs, or Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, are activities that go beyond basic needs and allow clients to be independent at home and in the community. This course provides an overview of IADLs including housework, meal preparation, understanding prescribed medications, shopping, telephone use and transportation within the community–and how caregivers can assist with these important activities.
- List at least 6 IADLs for which you may be assigned to assist clients.
- Describe the caregiver’s role in helping with telephone use, shopping and meal preparation.
- Develop a daily, monthly and seasonal plan for keeping up with your clients’ housekeeping needs.
- Discuss at least three measures to take to keep yourself and your client safe while driving in a car.
- Explore your state’s laws and your employer’s policy on handling money, and follow those guidelines.
