By now, you have probably heard about the terrible tragedy that occurred on Sunday, March 29th, at a nursing home in North Carolina. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people at Pinelake Health & Rehab and the family members of those who died. It appears that this horrible incident, which took the lives of seven residents and one nurse, is a case of domestic violence.
Because this is such an important issue, we are providing you with a link from which you may download a Domestic Violence Fact Sheet. This one page (double-sided) document covers some basic information about domestic violence–and how it can spill over into the workplace. Please feel free to make as many copies as you need for distribution to your staff.
If your nursing assistants would like more information about domestic violence, please call us at 877.809.5515. We will forward our entire “Understanding Domestic Violence” inservice to you, free of charge. We do this in an effort to spread the word about domestic abuse, in the hope that a similar tragedy never happens again.
Sincerely,
The Team at In the Know
Thank you to everyone who has called or emailed us to request the Domestic Violence inservice. Without question your display of concern and initiative will have a positive affect on someone’s life. On behalf of the entire staff at In the Know, thank you.
Evan
Dear Evan,
Is the offer for a free domestic violence inservice still available? I would love to have one for my agency. Unfortunately, as the Director of Nursing for a brand new agency, I do not yet have a budget line to purchase inservice programs. I have put together the required domestic violence inservice, but would love to have the packet to give the staff an excellent take-home resource. This is a topic that touches way too many lives; I have worked with many aides in the past who were domestic violence survivors. Having excellent resources for my staff, especially concerning life safety issues, is a definite priority. I will appreciate any help you may offer. Meanwhile, thank you for the DV fact sheet.
Sincerely yours,
Sheryl Heffernan, RN
Hi, Sheryl,
Yes! We are happy to supply you with the Domestic Violence inservice. The information is too important to “withhold” because of budget!
I will have one of my employees email it to you.
Good luck with your new agency…and remember that, when your budget allows, you can get 25% off your first order with us.
Take care,
Linda
